Here are some other statistics you may find surprising:

Poverty

  • Poverty in the United States has decreased recently, but it's still too high! As of 2016, the number of Americans living below poverty level was  12.7%.

  • But in Las Vegas, 16.8% were living in poverty.

Homelessness

Hunger

  • As of 2016, 12.8% of Clark County residents  were "food insecure"—meaning they sometimes don't have access to the food they need.

  • That's 264,020 people right here in the Las Vegas region that aren't getting adequate nutrition.
    Source: FeedingAmerica.org

  • Of more than 60,000 people surveyed by Feeding America in 2013, 69% had been forced to choose between buying food and paying their utility bills.

  • 66% of those surveyed had to choose between buying food and getting medical care.

Hunger, homelessness and poverty are still serious problems in our affluent society. At the City Mission, we're helping to fight them with practical compassion and the truth of the gospel. Come, join us!
