As a faith-based organization, the City Mission exists to introduce desperate men and women to faith in Jesus Christ. Through Him they can receive forgiveness of sins and be reconciled to God, their families, and society in general.
For the homeless and destitute, faith in God offers hope for the future – a new life free from the streets, and free from drug and alcohol addictions. All the services we provide point people to that source of hope—Jesus Christ.
Our daily devotional services offer homeless and destitute people the opportunity to leave their distractions behind, face the reality of their lives and learn about new life in Christ.
Many of the people we serve have simply never learned how to live healthy, effective lives. We believe the Bible has the answers to their problems. It instructs us to "Live in peace with everyone" (Hebrews 12:14), to "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" (Luke 10:27).
The Bible also tells us that "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law" (Galatians 5:23).
These are the things we focus on in our devotionals. And we see the application of God's word changing people's lives every day.
Sometimes people come to us in need of specialized help. They may be dealing with family issues, struggling with addictions, or simply needing the discipline of a good residential program. The City Mission has a network of ministries to which we refer people, providing a doorway to long-term spiritual health.
