It's hard to imagine that a simple thing like receiving a warm blanket could be the first step toward a new life. But for the homeless these things mean a lot.
They typically spend their nights outside. And it gets cold—even in Las Vegas! They try to keep warm by stuffing newspapers inside their shirts and sweaters.
Those who have homes can be just as desperate. We often receive requests for blankets from families that can't afford the gas to heat their homes.
If you have usable blankets, quilts, sleeping bags, mufflers, gloves, jackets, or sweaters, we'll put them to good use. You could also help us by doing a jacket or blanket drive in your neighborhood, office or school.
We deliver about 100 Family Food Boxes every month. And each box is filled with at least 35 meals. That's a lot of food! You can help us fill those boxes by donating nonperishable food such as:
- Peanut butter
- Canned meat
- Canned fruits
- Canned vegetables
We're desperately in need of men's and children's clothing, especially large sizes of socks and undergarments. Those are always the hardest to come by.
Unfortunately, we can't accept items that are broken, ripped, stained or dirty.
Donate Household Items
The City Mission receives household items which we then donate to to needy families in our community.
We can always use kitchen utensils and small kitchen appliances, dishes, pots, pans, bookshelves, dressers, baby furniture, lamps and small tables and chairs. (Because of our limited storage space, we can't accept larger items like couches, entertainment centers, beds or mattresses.)
Donate Your Car, Truck or RV
Give your unneeded vehicle, car, truck, or RV, to the City Mission and help the hungry and homeless in the process. It could be useful as transportation for the Mission, or it may be sold and the proceeds used to feed the hungry.
In either case, you'll receive a tax deductible receipt for its sale value.
Since we don't have the means to do repairs on vehicles, they must be in driveable condition.
Be a Sponsor
You can help us acquire donated food items by sponsoring:
- School food drives
- Collection boxes in the lobbies of professional businesses or churches
- Individuals wanting to drop off a bag or two of groceries
- Groups such as Sunday school classes, Girl or Boy Scouts promoting food drives like "Noodles in November"
Do you have something to donate? Tell us about it.
